Yes, it is a meat stew. But it is frightfully yummy and easy to make. My mom gave me the recipie.. Don't know where she got it.
HOBO STEW
1 c. thin sliced onion
1 c. chopped green pepper
¼ c. olive oil
2 lb. ground beef
1 (1 lb.) can kidney beans
1 Tbsp. steak sauce
1 (1 lb.) can whole kernel corn
1 (32 oz.) can Italian style tomatoes
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 Tbsp. mustard
some basil
salt and pepper to taste
Cook onion and green pepper in oil until onion is golden. Add beef and cook, stirring with fork until browned and broken up. Add other ingredients and mix well. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Serves 8 to 10. |

This does sound yummy!
Have you ever tried it without the beef? I'm always having to convert my favorite meals into some vegetarian counterpart... so I only have to make one dinner instead of two separate ones. Cooking was SO much easier when my daughter wasn't a tree-huging, Birkenstock wearing, vegetarian. Teenagers..... sheesh.... |

Absolutely!! And my first stop will be to the In and Out Burgers! She won't even let me get within 20 miles of that place. Then again, she's refused to eat at fast food restaurants since she was a toddler. Boy... is she in for a rude awakening once she starts college! No... wait.... I forgot..... she's only applying to all of the hippie-type private colleges (Reed, Dartmouth, Hampshire, Bard, etc.), where they pride themselves in growing their own vegetables and serving vegan meals. |
