While many physical conditions and disorders have been shown to cause psychological stress, studies have also found that psychological stress can likewise contribute to physical illness. According to the Harvard Mental Health Letter, the central nervous system, the endocrine system, and the immune system all respond to psychological stress. Depressed immune functioning is associated with many kinds of stress including bereavement, divorce, work, school, anxiety, depression, and sleep deprivation. Up to 80 percent of all American health problems are considered stress-related.
Naturally, stress is a given. It's often impossible to avoid and more so in this age of high-tech media and the Super Information Highway. As an example, what was intended to reduce information overload, e-mail has added to the total amount of messages we receive on a daily basis by phone, voice mail, pages, fax, letter, and so on. A study of workers at major corporations found that each received and sent an average of 178 messages a day and were interrupted by a message three times or more an hour, each one with its (usually false) air of urgency.
Being flooded with intermittent messages forces us into a reactive mode, to the point that we are constantly acting on some sort of problem or situation. The biggest impact is on concentration since each message serves as a distraction, making it all the harder to return to what we were working on with full focus. End result... chronic distractedness as our "To Do" list continuously evolves.
How does healing occur from a mind/body perspective? Ultimately, no one really knows for sure. The best we can do is to support and encourage the body's intrinsic healing mechanisms. By taking time to relax, one becomes more mindful of one's condition, grows more aware of the body's subtle signals, and responds to stress long before its destructive effects can take hold.
Mind/body medicine, which includes a wide range of modalities such as biofeedback, imagery, hypnotherapy, meditation and yoga, my soon revolutionize modern health care as we begin to recognize the profound interconnection of mind and body and the role of self-responsibility in the healing process. |

I'm glad the're catching up !!!!
There are 3 types of stress. Chemical, physical, and emotional. All 3 have the same biochemical and physiological response in the body. The body does not distinguish between the three types. So, being in a head-on collision, drinking 10 cups of coffe a day in addition to eating refined sugar and taking medications, or working 12 hour days when everything else is "going wrong" ... ALL have the same assault on your body from a biochemical or physiological perspective.

Tropic (long O sound, not the Hawaiian Islands) report injury to the brain. These nerves are one part of the physical body which substantiates the existence of the 5th brain circuit, the neurosomatic circiut. Neurosomatic literally means nerve-body or mind-body. Other links are the hypothalamus (neuroendocrine link) and limbic system (neuroemotional link and neurosomatic link) Blood, by the way, carries neurotransmitters. This technically makes the blood an adjunct part of the nervous system. There are others too substantiating the brain circuit model. Harvard should discover this soon. |

My body has been under serious assault for many, many years.... I think it's become immune to the stress attacks. |
