Five years ago, Mumbai-based Esther Daswani, a noted model of the early '70s, stepped into her 50th year. Half a century of living and breathing... life was all roses for this happy homemaker.
Until, calamity struck in the form of a malignant tumour, which completely shattered her. Cervical cancer was the diagnosis. Immediate chemotherapy followed. And while she was undergoing that process, a few of her friends introduced her to alternative healing therapies.
These were not the usual ones – like Reiki or Art of Living – which are much talked-about. These were, what can be called, the alternative alternative therapies.
The scope of alternative therapies is vast. Apart from those that most people are well-versed with, there are a host of others, which include, Bowen therapy, Pyramid meditation, Mandala therapy and Lemuria Temple healing.
Some of the healing therapies don't even have names, they are identified by the type of energy they emit. For instance, the therapy that Daswani was introduced to utilised a divine 'blue' light. This therapy was practised by followers of the 13th century saint, St Germaine.
Daswani vividly recollects how the healer would make her lie down to ensure that the 'blue' light would envelope her entire body and cure the afflicted area.
"Then, at any given time, I would chant these affirmations – 'let the blue light walk through me, let the blue light run through me' – repeatedly. I also happened to meet some followers of the Mahikari way of healing. The practitioners of this system of healing throw their light on the afflicted areas and whisper Japanese prayers," Daswani explains.
