This exercise I had placed in meditations, at one point, but I use it and teach it as a self hypnosis method as well. I include the preamble portion, as it appeared before!
Those who are ill, stressed, or traumatized are often holding themselves tightly to their reality...almost fearful of losing control if they loosen up. Though this is most apparent with individuals whose crisis are acute, even with minor stresses and illnesses this tight grip on their current reality can make it difficult to move forward, or heal.
The following is a deceptively simple method of releasing the tight grip on the currently perceived reality, and moving into a more spiritual perspective. For individuals in an acute state, just firmly but compassionately giving them verbal directions-- talking them through this-- can lead to a profound and immediate change. For others, where the need is not so great, it may or may not require practice to do for yourself.
Those who have used it have reported decreased or cessession of pain, physical and emotional. I have used it myself to control almost immediately sinus and migraine headaches.
The Process
See yourself as a physical being... from the inside of your body.
Note: This sounds complicated, but if you think about it, that IS how you 'see' your body... as if out through your eyes. This is therefore, for those who were not born blind, an immediately successful first step. With someone ill or in trauma, this builds confidence in the whole procedure.
Next, imagine that your spirit is inside your body… almost like an energy overlay over the physical you.
Now, imagine that your spirit wants to get a bit more comfortable. Picture it wiggling a bit in the tight quarters.
Having wiggled, let it scoot or squirm a bit to the side... just a tiny bit. Now that it has the 'hang' of it, it moves just a bit more to the side. It does not leave the body, simply moves over until something changes, so that it feels more comfortable. See it doing this.
Now, think of it moving a little more, fine-tuning its position, until the change is unmistakable. Your perception will have changed sometimes subtly, sometimes blatantly.
Practice this often. It will aid you when you need it, as well as help you with meditation, etc. To return to your previous, or to almost to your previous perception, you have only to see the spirit shifting back to its previous, position, or one near it. If you are talking someone else through the process be sure your instructions are brief and clear at each step. Your confidence in the process is integral to their own success. |
