Clear your clutter and transform your life!

Clutter is stuck energy that can affect you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Clearing up your clutter can change your life by releasing negative emotions, generating energy, and providing space in your life for the things you want to achieve.

Feng Shui is the art of balancing and harmonizing the flows of natural energies in our surroundings to create beneficial effects in our lives.

Major causes of stuck energy are grime such as dirt, dust, filth, grease. Low level energy always accumulates around dirt, hence the phrase "cleanliness is next to Godliness."

energy from the past (predecessor energy)- everything from the past is recorded in walls, floors, furniture, and objects and builds up in layers the same way as grime does. Even though it is invisible it still can affect us. If you live in a house where the previous owners were unhappily married, chances are you will be too.....or if the owner had a problem with weight, chances are you will too. The energies will remain in the house and history will repeat itself.

Clutter- Energy should flow smoothly. Any kind of clutter causes energy in that space to become stuck and creates confusion in our lives.

I will post later a 21 step space clearing ceremony for ridding your home of predecessor energy.

Clutter clearing is one of the most effective, transformative aspects of Feng Shui. Feng Shui has cures and enhancements but they work much better after space clearing is done.

Is your energy level low? Do you feel stuck in a rut? Depressed? Feel like you need some self-improvement courses? Why not try this first.

Let's find out how you can sort out your life by sorting out your junk!

One of the most interesting ascpects of Feng Shui is the Bagua grid.
I'll scan the picture of one later so you can see exactly what it looks like and how to use it properly. This is used to locate where each aspect of your life can be found in any building you occupy. It can also be used for gardens and yards. I even use if for my desktop.

An example of the areas is the Wealth area. Most people rush out and buy mirrors and enhancements to add to the wealth area. What they forget to do though is to clear the clutter first. So here they have this wonderful mirror in the corner that is attracting more energy to that corner only to have it increase the clutter that is there instead and causing them financial problems.

More on the Bagua in later posts. Now, on to clearing the clutter!

CLUTTER = middle english "clotter" ~to coagulate~

Clutter accumulates when energy stagnates and, likewise, energy stagnates when clutter accumulates. So the clutter begins as a symptom of what is happening with you in our life and then becomes part of the problem itself beause the more of it you have, the more stagnant energy it attracts to itself.

Most of our lives revolve around our living space and are anchored there. Everything around you, especially your home environment, mirrors your inner self. You can attract wonderful new opportunities to you by removing obstacles in your living environment and allowing a more harmonious flow of energy.

Four categories of clutter:
1. Things you do not use or love
2. anything unfinished
3. too many things in too small a space
4. things that are untidy or disorganized

space clearing ceremony used by Karen Kingston for ridding your home of predecessor energy

This is a safe technique designed for personal everyday use but not to be used for exorcism.

Preparation
1. If you feel afraid or apprehensive wait till another time to Space clear.
2. Before clearing someone else's space, obtain permission.
3. Make sure you feel physically healthy, emotionally centered, and focused.
4. If you are pregnant, menstruating or have an open flesh wound, it's best not to do space clearing at this time.
5. Think about what you want to happen in your life. If you share your space make sure to consult with them too.
6. Physically clean and tidy the space.
7. Shower, bath or at least wash your face and hands before starting.
8. Food and drink should be in sealed containers or in cupboards.
9. Do not wear jewelry or other metalic objects. Work barefoot if possible.
10. Work alone or with others who fully understand.
11. Turn off any noise. The place should be silent.
12. Open a window or a door.
13. Locate an appropriate energy point and set up your space clearing equipment. (bells, incense, candles, flowers, holy water)
14. Sensitize your hands.

Procedures
15. Attune to the space. Announce yourself mentally and send out your intention.
16. Start at the main entrance and work your way around the inside perimeter of the house using your hands and other senses to "feel" the energy.
17. Light candles, burn incense, sprinkle holy water, offer flowers, prayers to guardian spirit of the house and the spirits of earth, air, fire, and water. Call your personal guides, angels, whatever feels appropriate.
18. Clap in all the corners to disperse the static energy. Be sure to wash your hands after. (very important)
19. Use bells to purify the space.
20. Shield the space.
21. Finally, fill the space with light, love and intention.

**PLEASE NOTE**
This is a very brief outline of Space Clearing and just intended for people to get an idea of what the Space Clearing ceremony is about. Detailed instructions to perform one correctly can be found in "Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui".

Four categories of clutter:
1. Things you do not use or love

Love, used and appreciated things have strong, joyous energies around them. They allow the flow of energy to flow through and around. Surrounding yourself with things like this will make your life feel freeflowing, happy and content.

Anything neglected, forgotten, unwanted, unloved, and unused will cause the energy to stagnate, slow, and make your life feel like it is not moving.

Loved things give you nourishment and support because everything you own is connected to you by fine strands of energy. Clutter will only drag your energy down. The longer you keep it, the worse it gets. Ridding yourself of things that have no signifigance for you will make you feel lighter in body, mind and spirit.

2. anything unfinished

This Clutter is the hardest to see. Things not finished in your home reflect issues not dealt with in your life and are a drain on your energy level. Some of these unfinished things might be repairs that need doing such as fixing a broken door, fixing a leaky faucet, or even big jobs like redecorating, or cleaning up the garden. There are also ones like phone calls you need to make, bills you need to send in, relationships you need to move on from, and all the other loose ends in your life. The subconscious mind has a nice way of suppressing most of these things for us if we ask it, but that zapps a lot of energy to do so. Completing all unfinished tasks will raise your energy vitality enormously.

3. too many things in too small a space

I think we've all had this at one time or another. You start out living in a small house and then the kids come along and things start to really get crowded. I find that people who move a lot tend to have less clutter since they are constantly needing to pack and are forced to clear out what they don't need because they don't want to pack it. There are though, the ones who pack it all up and then it never gets unpacked. That is clutter. Ok, back to the small spaces and too many things. When this happens, even if you have become creative and found lots of neat storage units, it will still make it difficult for the energy to flow and for you to get anything done for lack of space. You'll soon get that claustrophobic feeling. Your breathing will become tighter and shallower and you'll feel constricted in what you can do with your life.

The remedy for this type of clutter is to either move to a bigger place or shift some of the stuff off of the premises allowing for a better energy flow through the house.

4. things that are untidy or disorganized

This is my computer desk for sure!! haha!
Are you messy and hopelessly disorganized? Then this category is for you. You might even be able to keep your stuff clear to just the things you love and use but if these things are scattered all over it is still cluttered. It makes things hard to find also which will cause frustration. A lot of us say that even though it's a mess we still know where everything is. Or that you need to keep things in the open to remind you to do them. Take a test and see if you actually know where something is or if you only know the general direction of it.

Knowing where things are makes your life work better. Let's take the bed for example. There is an energy connection between you and your bed. It's direct and clear. You can connect to it instantly in your mind. How about your house keys. Do you know exactly where they are or do you have to mentally hunt for them. (I know exactly where mine are and the same with my wallet) But how about that letter that needs replying too? (this one I had to hunt for just today in this messy desk)

Now, think about those strands to each thing you own and think about them being messy. Sort of looks like spaghetti doesn't it? Now think of them neat and orderly. Spaghetti will only cause confusion and stress in your life.

This kind of clutter consists of things without proper places or things that have wandered from that proper place. Most items just seem to appear in your life. Junk mail for instance. Ever notice how paper piles seem to build themselves. Other clutter is acquired through *impulse buying* (this is my mother!) You buy it, place it somewhere till you can think of a proper place for it, and there it stays for years. Whenever you look at it it is always bugging you in the back of your mind as to where it should go.

Now, we don't want to strive for *pristine neatness*. A home that is way too clean where everything is properly placed is energetically sterile. This can be as much a problem as a dump apparently. I know someone with a pristine clean house and it does have a weird feeling to it. I'm afraid to move for fear of making some kind of mess.

Just remember that your home is a reflection of you and what's going on inside you. If you are messy on the outside then there is a corresponding mess going on inside you too. If you clean up and sort through the outer (your house) then the you will feel sorted inside too.

You might not even be aware of how these types of clutter actually affect your lives.

I have been feeling chocked off for more than a year now. There are times when it's lessened when I've done my part, and encouraged my husband to do his in terms of going through the accumulation of 'stuff.'

I periodically go through drawers and closets, and it's been helping to improve things. I do have the feeling that until a) my place is freshly painted (which will also mean clearing out more 'stuff') and/or b) we move to a larger place, this will be a constant battle.

As of now I have the intention to paint this spring, but it depends in part on when my editing project wraps up. I really want to do this (despite the major undertaking it is), but I KNOW how much better I will feel when its done! There is truly so much to Feng Shui.

As an example, in the fall I ended up vacuuming INSIDE a radiator...and I could feel the corner of the room so much lighter as a result. It's actually a pretty neat thing to do.

Great piece Terri. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you liked that, but, as I prefaced it.... this is a post from our previous forum that was originally written by Nancy. All I did was move it over to this forum. Smile

On the subject of clearing out clutter. About a month ago, I went through all of my office files, which took me a few days, and organized everything. (you know.... if not for the IRS, there would be no way I would keep SEVEN YEARS worth of paper.) Then I cleaned out my closet and the cabinets in the garage and ended up giving away and/or donating so much stuff... including a crib I've been "saving" for 17 years. It was a beautiful crib. That went to my gardener.... he was so happy... and I actually cried as he was loading it up on his truck. I prefer giving things to people I know, rather than just donating them to charity. And over this past weekend, I cleaned out and organized my kitchen cabinets. I still have more "stuff" I can part with, which I'll probably work on this weekend....... maybe. Wink

We've just recently moved from a suburbia to a rural area, and we got rid of a lot of clutter and in the new house the energy is a lot better as there is more space (not really because we got rid of heaps of stuff more probably because there is more space). It's taken a lot of time to get the some of the energies around the place sorted out (mostly outside), the unfinished energies were the ones that were the most apparent as the previous owner seemed to have many partially completed projects.

Mind you the energy flow of my dad's suburban garage must be improving as 20 years of hoarded goods have found a useful home in our shed. Wink

After five months we're finally settled in nicely, the days are getting colder and shorter and I'm spending more time on with a nice warm laptop on my knee keeping me warm (Not as cold as some of you are used to, but taes a bit of getting used to any way)
