here's a few with some basics. Not a complete list of course, and many you probably already know.
Mints: to aid digestion, stimulate bile flow from liver, ease nausea, and freshen the breath.
Chamomile: relieving tension, irritable bowel syndrome, and to ease menstrual pain. (do not take during pregnancy)
Angelica: (leaves) calming (often to help you sleep), indigestion, coughs, colds. (root) digestive and liver stimulant, promotes sweating in fevers. (do not take during pregnancy, or by diabetics)
Basil: to reduce travel sickness, or mourning sickness in pregnancy. Uplifting tonic for nervous exhaustion.
Bergamot: sore throats, chest ailments.
Anise: relaxing expectorant good for dry irritating cough, bronchial infections.
Dandelion: mild laxative, diuretic, liver stimulant, clears toxins from the blood. (also the roasted roots can be used as an alternative to coffee)
Dill: poor digestion, flatulence, indigestion, also a mild tranquilizer and induces sleep.
Fennel: mild diuretic and laxative, settling to the stomach. Also useful when undergoing chemo as it eases the nausea. Promotes the flow of breast milk. Tonic to the kidney. Can also be used to wash the eyes with. (avoid large doses while pregnant as it's a uterine stimulant)
Lemon balm: eases headache or a toothache, helpful in early stages of a cold, digestive aid.
Lemon grass: clears the skin, mild diuretic
Parsley: diuretic, useful for anemia
Red Clover blossoms: cleansing to the skin, coughs, popular as an anti-cancer remedy.
Rosemary: improves memory, useful in exhaustion, weakness and depressive states.
Sage: (leaves) mouthwash, constipation, rheumatism, tonic for the liver, (roots) circulatory stimulant, some types of menstrual pain. (do not use in pregnancy)
Thyme: tension headaches, overtirednes, sore throats, diarrhea, expectorant for deep chest congestion. (do not take during pregnancy)
Ginger: eases nausea, expectorant for colds, circulatory stimulant
Celery seeds: diuretic, clears toxins from the system, especially uric acids from the joints.
Licorice: anti-inflammatory good for allergic reactions, simulating hormone production and restimulating the adrenal cortex after steroid therapy. Healing to gastric ulcerations.
Willow bark: eases painful conditions, headaches, arthritis.
Valerian: good for nervous tension, anxiety and insomnia. Strengthens the heart, sometimes reduces high blood pressure.
Cinnamon: chronic diarrhea, weakened kidney.
And of course, adding a lemon slice to any of the above is good for easing a sore throat and adding taste.
