|
|
Ann's Crohn's disease is flaring up again. She ended up in the hospital for 3 days last week on IVs. The end result is she's going in for surgery next Monday morning at 6:30 (Pacific time), 13 December & will be in for 7-10 days.
The dr hopes to be able to perform a stricturplasty on the affected portion of her intestine. This is where they make an incision lengthwise & then close it up the opposite direction from top to bottom...forms kind of an elbow that gives the food more room to move through.
If they are unable to perform the stricturplasty, they'll have to just cut the affected portion completely out & reattach it.
Either way, she'll be in the hospital for quite a while & hopes to get out & be all better before Christmas.
Please send Reiki to her...she feels really confident about this procedure & the timing feels really good.
Thanks, I'll keep you posted as I'm updated.

Hi Blueie,
Long time since I been in here. I sure do miss everyone tho. I will think "positive thoughts" for Ann and send lots of **soothing energy** her way. Say some prayers as well. Poor gurl - she sure has had her share of problems with that.
How ya be gurl? Hope all is well with you. I have been keeping busy and enjoying my new own space. I moved again in beg. of October and now living in my own bsmt suite. I love it. It's in an older house, but a really big and beautiful backyard too. Bird feeders out there, a few lil squirrels that visit and there are chickadees feeding daily. It's so peaceful and quiet here.
I want to wish you all "Happy Holidays"!!!

|
|
Here is the email I received from Ann's husband, Chad, in reference to her surgery yesterday.
******************************************
Hello All,
Ann asked that I update all of you on her surgery. Most of you know Ann has been battling her Crohns disease again (see www.ccfa.org for info on Crohns). After multiple visits to the ER for nausea and cramping she choose surgery as option to treat her Crohns. The surgery was performed today and went well. She is heavily medicated, not in pain, and is resting now. The surgeon found a 20 cm section of small bowel that was diseased. This section had the two restrictions previously identified by xray on either end. The surgeon performed a resection to remove the diseased section. Her recovery should be similar to what followed her surgery in 2002. She should be at Bremerton Naval Hospital for at least four - seven days, with additional recovery time at home.
The kids and I are fine, my office has graciously provided meals (they were worried the kids would not survive on Pizza and HO-HOs), and I am off work through the holidays. Ann's mom is also here to help out. Ann should be home in plenty of time for the holiday.
If you want to call Ann she should be able to take your call after Tuesday afternoon at 360-475-5125. This phone rings at her bedside (room # 5003 bed A).
Ann and I wish all well and Happy Holidays,
Chad |

Ann was released from the hospital on Saturday afternoon & is doing good. Here's the text of the email I received.

Just a quick note, cuz i needed to get up off the couch for a bit and stretch my back! As Chad mentioned the surgery went well. The strictureplasty wasn't possible, because the strictures were pretty close together AND the area between them was pretty inflamed and diseased, so it was definitely better to just remove the entire section. They had me drinking fluids the very next day after surgery, and they wanted me on food by the day after that! It was a dizzying turn around process compared to what i had before, and somewhat scarry to me, but i made it thru. The docs released me from the hosp late yesterday afternoon to my total amazement! Today was a pretty good day... although hospital beds on occasion are much easier to get in and out of! lol I am feeling pretty good, tired and sore of course, but nothing that a week or two of rest won't take care of. Actually this surgery has gone way easier than the previous one did... maybe that's because i knew what was coming and what the recovery would be like, eh? Oh well, i'm not complaining!
I plan on sleeping late in the mornings, but if you want to contact me, afternoons seem like they will be great as of today... at least that's the way the pain meds work out, so i'm more coherent!
Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers. I know every bit of it had something to do with how quickly i'm recovering and at home. It's all so very much appreciated, and i know the Spirit will return your caring a multitude over!
More info will come in the days ahead, just be patient with me, i'm a little slow right now, and i'm sure you'll understand that i'm taking some much needed time for myself!
Love ya all bunches -
Ann |
