"While most work is done to alleviate the symptoms of a chronic problem, curing happens, Colombero said, and miracles do occur, even in some areas that western medicine cannot help. While acupuncture is a good method to treat chronic problems, Colombero still notes the importance of western medicine to set broken bones, or perform surgeries.
If a person is currently being treated by western medicine, Colombero is able to work within those given parameters. Unlike western medicine, which may have unwanted side effects, Chinese herbal medicine is side effect free.
Because the whole herb is used, not just the extracted active ingredient, the herb's other properties serve to balance a formula.
Acupuncture is currently the fastest growing of all therapies in the U.S., Colombero noted, which is probably a function of the practice's lack of side effects."
